Cooperative Streamgaging Program
In conjunction with the U.S. Geological Survey, the Water Board
operates 73 gages statewide that provide valuable data on surface
water quantity and quality. Evenly dividing the costs
required to operate and maintain the required equipment, the two
agencies are assisted by
various local communities and organizations throughout Oklahoma who
fund specific gages to obtain reliable, real-time streamflow data
for flood forecasting, flash flood warnings, and other important
purposes. As the primary state cooperator in the program, the OWRB
depends heavily
on this data to determine amounts of water available for use.
