Osage County Rural Water District #22 Receives $17,000 Grant for Water System Improvements

The Osage County Rural Water District #22 (District) received approval for a $17,000 Emergency Grant Tuesday through the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB) to conduct investigations to identify a viable water source for the District.

The Distrcit currently has no water source or distribution lines in place. The current residents obtain water through on-site wells, rainwater collection, and hauling potable water. The OWRB Emergency Grant will be used to prepare an Environmental Information Document, and to conduct a geotechnical investigation for the drilling of groundwater wells. The projected cost of the project is $20,000 of which $17,000 will be funded by OWRB Emergency REAP Grant along with $3,000 in local funds.

Joe Freeman, chief of the OWRB's Financial Assistance Division, calculated that the grant will save the Districts customers $30,600 in principal and interest charges, by not having to borrow the project funds. Since 1983 the Water Resources Board has approved over $3.5 billion in loans and grants for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements throughout Oklahoma.

We are grateful to Senator Eddie Fields and Representative Travis Dunlap for their continued support of water and wastewater infrastructure funding in Oklahoma, said Julie Cunningham, OWRB Interim Executive Director.
