Barnsdall Public Works Authority Receives $72,020 Grant for Wastewater System Improvements

The Barnsdall Public Works Authority (Authority) in Osage County received approval for a $72,020 Rural Economic Action Plan (REAP) grant Tuesday through the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB) to improve the Authority’s wastewater infrastructure.

The Authority owns and operates a wastewater treatment system that consists of a 2-cell sewer lagoon and cascade aerator. The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality has issued a consent order to the system for non-compliance with disinfection requirements. The proposed project includes completing the engineering design, survey, planning, and construction inspection of a disinfection system. The estimated cost of the project is $72,020.

Joe Freeman, chief of the OWRB's Financial Assistance Division, calculated that the grant will save the Authority’s customers $129,636 in principal and interest charges, by not having to borrow the project funds. Since 1983 the Water Resources Board has approved over $3.5 billion in loans and grants for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements throughout Oklahoma.

“We are grateful to Senator Eddie Fields and Representative Sean Roberts for their continued support of water and wastewater infrastructure funding in Oklahoma,” said Julie Cunningham, OWRB Interim Executive Director.
