McLoud Receives $39,250 Emergency Grant for Wastewater System Improvements

The McLoud Public Works Authority (Authority) in Pottawatomie County received approval for a $39,250 Emergency Grant Tuesday through the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB) to improve the Authority’s wastewater infrastructure. A recent collapse of a sewer system manhole near the Authority's lift station caused significant damage to the sewer line and forcemain that flow into the manhole. The damaged forcemain is used to transport wastewater from the nearby Mabel Bassett Correctional Center.

To resolve the issue, the Authority constructed a new 5-foot diameter manhole, interior drop pipes, approximately 125 feet of 24-inch PVC pipe gravity line, construction of approximately 125 feet of 8-inch PVC pipe forcemain, temporary force main connection, fittings, and earthwork. The project cost was $119,879 which will be funded by the $39,250 OWRB Emergency Grant, a $25,000 COEDD REAP Grant, $35,916 from the McLoud Economic Development Association, and $19,712 in local funds. Attending the OWRB’s monthly meeting in support of the emergency application included McLoud City Manager Buck Day.

Joe Freeman, chief of the OWRB's Financial Assistance Division, calculated that the grant will save the Authority’s customers $70,650 in principal and interest charges, by not having to borrow the project funds. Since 1983 the Water Resources Board has approved over $3.4 billion in loans and grants for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements throughout Oklahoma.

“We are grateful to Senators Ron Sharp and Jason Smalley and Representative Tom Newell for their continued support of water and wastewater infrastructure funding in Oklahoma,” said J.D. Strong, OWRB Executive Director.
