Pittsburg County Rural Water District No. 14 Receives OWRB Grant to Repair Water System

Pittsburg County Rural Water District No. 14 (District) received approval for a $55,000 Emergency Grant from the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB) on Tuesday to repair a portion of its water distribution system.

Recent flood events have caused excessive damage to the District's water supply system which at one point resulted in a loss of water supply to the community for approximately nine days. To address the issue, the District will use the grant to complete a project consisting of boring and installation of new casing and pipe.

Joe Freeman, chief of the OWRB's Financial Assistance Division, calculated that the grant will save the District's customers more than $99,900 in principal and interest charges, by not having to borrow those funds. The project will be completed with an additional $11,900 in local funds. Crysta Watson and Dale Burke of Infrastructure Solutions attended the OWRBs monthly meeting in representation of the District's grant application.

Since 1983, the Oklahoma Water Resources Board has approved over $3.3 billion in loans and grants for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements throughout Oklahoma.

We are grateful to State Senator Larry Boggs and State Representatives Ed Cannaday, Brian Renegar, and Donnie Condit for their support of our financial assistance programs, said J.D. Strong, executive director of the OWRB.
