Coyle Public Works Authority Receives $99,973 Grant for Water System Improvements

The Coyle Public Works Authority (Authority) in Logan County received approval for a $99,973 Rural Economic Action Plan (REAP) grant Tuesday through the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB) to improve the Authority’s water infrastructure.

The Authority provides water to approximately 325 residents of the town. A majority of the existing water distribution system's valves are no longer working and it is often not possible to isolate water flow in the system's lines when necessary. This results in excessive water loss. The Authority is proposing to install new valves throughout the water distribution system which will allow isolation during line breaks and prevent water loss.

Joe Freeman, chief of the OWRB's Financial Assistance Division, calculated that the grant will save the Authority’s customers $179,952 in principal and interest charges, by not having to borrow the project funds. Since 1983 the Water Resources Board has approved over $3.3 billion in loans and grants for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements throughout Oklahoma.

“We are grateful to State Senator James Halligan and State Representative Lee Denney for their continued support of water and wastewater infrastructure funding in Oklahoma,” said J.D. Strong, OWRB Executive Director.
