Figure 1-5. The graph above indicates how base flood elevation (BFE) is determined. The x axis shows the distance above the mouth of the stream, while the y axis shows flood heights for the 100 year flood event. In the example, a structure built at 7600 feet above the mouth of the stream would have a BFE of 1134.7 feet.
